Brand:  Maison Margiela was founded in 1988 by Martin Margiela, a Belgium born designer trained at the Royal Academy in Antwerp.  He began his career as an assistant to Jean Paul Gaultier and then went on to found Maison Margiela in 1988 in Paris.  Martin is considered on of the most creative and influential designers of our time with some calling him the “father of the sartorial deconstruction technique”.  His approach to using recycled materials that acquire new meanings paved the way for luxury brands to be free from the typical luxury pretentiousness.  Martin left the brand in 2014 and today creative director John Galliano continues to embody the spirit of experimentation that Martin created.
