Product: This bronze drachm is fromkashmir, ancient India, 570-1213 AD. Nestled in the Himalayas, the land called Kashmir is considered to be the most beautiful place in all the world. Today it is a land of conflict, a disputed territory administered by India, Pakistan, and China. Historically, it has been ruled by imperial Britain, by Sikhs, by Muslims, by Shaivites, and, long ago, by Hindus. This bronze drachm of Kashmir dates to the post-Hunnic Hindu period, which ended around the time of the first millennium. On the obverse of the coin is the seated goddess Lakshmi, consort to the great Vishnu. She is the goddess of wealth, fortune, love, beauty, joy, and prosperity. The eight principal manifestations of Lakshmi symbolize the eight sources of wealth. The reverse shows a stylized king. Every coin is unique but similar in size and condition. The one you will receive might be slightly different and not necessarily the same as pictured. Some are rounder, some more oblong in shape, but all with extremely nice detail for the type. Originally owned by Robin Danziger of NY.
